It was an early start for the JKA Scotland squad at the Takasaki arena.
With competitors from all over the world congregating it was always going to be a very busy day with 8 Tatami running from 9am until 8pm.
Ruby and Srishti
First up on the floor for their kata events were Ruby Wallace and Srishti Panthri. With over 80 competitors this was a huge event. Both got a bye in the first round before Ruby was eliminated after a good effort in the second round by an opponent who went on into the final. Srishti however progressed to the last 16 before being eliminated.
Calum
Calum unfortunately got knocked out in the first round but he should be proud of his efforts as he had a very strong opponent.
Lunch Break
After lunch things definitely didn’t quieten down as the Kumite events kicked off. To say the standard was high would be an understatement and with strict rules enforced about facial contact it wasn’t long before competitors started to get disqualified.
Calum
Calum Bruce was up next and after a bye in the first round and his second round opponent not turning up, was unfortunately almost knocked out by a wayward mawashi geri which meant disqualification for his opponent and Calum unable to continue in his Kumite event. Poor control and bad luck on Calum’s part.
Holly
Holly Williams was next up in the kata event and again did very well being eliminated in the 3rd round Sentei Kata section.
Conor
Conor got a bye in the first round then eliminated by a very strong opponent but didn’t let himself down.
Holly
Holly Williams was up first in the 18-21 section and did really well getting through 2 fights and the final 32. An excellent performance by Holly.
Caitlin
Caitlin was competing in the Kata event after lunch on the 2nd day. Good job we went in early as they had brought the event forward by half an hour so very rushed but an excellent performance by Caitlin saw her narrowly defeated.
All in all though some very strong performances today from the junior squad who can all hold their heads up high, well done to them all
